MISFIRING LIVERPOOL PAIR IN TOP 10 WORST PREMIER LEAGUE FINISHERS LIST

Here are the top 10 players owned by their xG through the Premier League season so far. Erling Haaland should have scored three more.

These are the Premier League stars whose goals tally lags their xG most. For the less fun list of players outstripping their xG numbers, go here.

1) Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton): -5.3

Expected goals:

11.3 Actual goals: 6

He finally scored after 23 goalless games, but a penalty conversion barely moved the dial here. Another goal followed v Burnley and then against Liverpool as his season finally kicked back into life.

2) Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea): -4.8

Expected goals: 14.8

Actual goals: 10

Demonstrably not very good at being a striker. To be fair, he was never supposed to be Chelsea’s first choice.

3) Darwin Nunez (Liverpool): -4.7

Expected goals: 15.7 Actual goals: 11

Had five off-target shots v Manchester United, which just about sums up his season. Nobody in the Premier League takes more shots. Nobody in the Premier League misses more chances. He was dire v Everton again.

4) Beto (Everton): -3.8

Expected goals: 6.8

Actual goals: 3

Had five shots v Chelsea. Everton really do need to bring in a goalscorer this summer because they have a couple of nuggets here.

5) Enzo Fernández (Chelsea): -3.2

Expected goals: 6.2

Actual goals: 3

Not quite getting the hang of this £100m footballer lark.

6) Luis Diaz (Liverpool): -3.1

Expected goals: 11.1 Actual goals: 8

Scores with only 9% of his shots. Which probably means he’s taking the wrong shots.

7) Brennan Johnson (Tottenham): -3.0

Expected goals: 8.0 Actual goals: 5

Has made some telling contributions for Spurs as the season has reached business time, but he has also missed some gobbers.

8) Erling Haaland (Manchester City): -3.0

Expected goals: 24.0 Actual goals: 21

The Premier League’s top scorer but he should be further ahead of the pack. Had four shots v Arsenal without once hitting the target, earning some particularly stinging criticism from Roy Keane. Then only scored from the penalty spot v Luton. Added a proper goal v Forest at least.

9) Julian Alvarez (Manchester City): -2.8

Expected goals: 11.8 Actual goals: 9

Finally scored his first Premier League goal in three months with City needed it v Forest.

10) Keane Lewis-Potter (Brentford): -2.7

Expected goals: 5.7 Actual goals: 3

Scored v Luton Town but pretty much anybody can score v Luton Town these days.
